Epta is committed to greater sustainability

Epta's commitment to sustainability extends beyond just relying on renewable energies, conserving resources, and recycling materials. The company actively advocates for a healthier ecosystem by partnering with the online platform Treedom, which plants trees worldwide.

Trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and store it, effectively removing CO2 from the atmosphere. The positive impact on the climate increases the longer a tree lives. Today and in the future, due to rising average temperatures, there is a growing need for trees in temperate climates that can withstand both heatwaves and heavy rainfall effectively.

Strengthening the Italian forest

In 2018, a severe cyclone in the northern Italian region of Veneto caused trees to be uprooted across an area of 100,000 hectares. The Epta Group has been present in this region for many years, with two production sites in Limana and Solesino, and feels deeply connected to the area. Therefore, the company decided to support reforestation efforts. Trees are not only important for sequestering CO2 but also for restoring ecological balance and protecting hydrogeological stability. The trees planted by Epta in Veneto were sourced from Treedom, an online platform pioneering tree planting initiatives. This initiative operates worldwide and offers a variety of trees that contribute to environmental protection by combating soil erosion, ensuring food security in the respective regions, promoting economic development, or sequestering CO2.

126 tons less CO2

For the 51st Earth Day on April 21, 2021, the refrigeration technology manufacturer took another step to demonstrate that the growth of the corporate group should increasingly support the environment and society. As part of this initiative, Epta supports the planting and care of a total of 1500 fruit trees in Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, Kenya, and Tanzania. With this project, which spans three years, the group aims to advance its environmental commitment. Its objectives include climate neutrality, biodiversity conservation, and combating climate change. The trees planted so far have sequestered more than 126 tons of CO2.

Supporting smallholder farmers

However, Treedom's benefits are not limited to the environment. The society, especially the local smallholder farmers, also benefit from it. They plant the trees on their land and harvest their fruits. This provides them with the opportunity to earn some extra income or even establish their own micro-enterprises. Thus, Treedom's initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. The 17 goals include ending poverty, ensuring food security, protecting land ecosystems, promoting sustainable economic growth and decent work for all, and combating climate change and its impacts.

In the future, the Epta Group is taking another step forward by gifting each new employee and all those who retire with a tree. Since each tree is precisely mapped, photographed, and given its own website by Treedom, which is regularly updated, the recipients can track the growth of their tree online.
